Adult Education Teacher

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Hamilton Correctional Institution, the Education department. This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model.

The Bureau of Education at the Florida Department of Corrections provides comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Job Duties:

• Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
• Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
• Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
• Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
• Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.

Special Note: Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate within 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator's Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate.
