Position Overview
We are seeking a Counter Sales / Inside Sales professional with strong plumbing, PVF or related product knowledge.
This position combines product knowledge, customer service and sales. The individual will work directly with contractors and other trade customers, assist with product selection, recommend appropriate solutions, identify additional customer needs, develop relationships and contribute to branch sales growth.
Key Responsibilities
Counter Sales and Customer Service
• Assist in person and telephone customers with product selection and purchasing.
• Understand customer needs and recommend appropriate products and solutions.
• Provide knowledgeable and responsive customer service.
• Develop and maintain relationships with contractors and trade customers.
• Serve as a knowledgeable product resource for customers.
• Resolve customer questions and product related issues efficiently.
Sales and Account Development
• Identify opportunities to provide additional products and solutions.
• Recommend complementary products when appropriate.
• Promote stocked products and suitable alternatives.
• Develop and support existing customer accounts.
• Reengage customers whose purchasing activity has declined.
• Maintain regular communication with customers.
• Contribute to increased branch sales.
• Monitor changes in customer purchasing activity and communicate potential opportunities internally.
Product Knowledge
• Maintain strong knowledge of plumbing, PVF or related products.
• Understand product applications and appropriate alternatives.
• Continue developing knowledge across additional product categories.
• Learn HVAC and related product lines as needed.
• Understand competitive products and available substitutions.
Branch Responsibilities
• Work closely with branch management, warehouse, purchasing and sales teams.
• Follow up on open customer orders.
• Maintain an organized and professional counter environment.
• Participate in product training and company meetings.
• Demonstrate reliability, professionalism and consistent follow through.
Qualifications
Required
• Strong plumbing, PVF or related product knowledge.
• Experience working with contractors or trade customers.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Proactive sales approach and ability to identify additional customer needs.
• Ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers.
• Comfortable using order entry systems, email and standard business applications.
Preferred
• Two or more years of Counter Sales, Inside Sales or similar experience.
• Plumbing, PVF, HVAC or related wholesale distribution experience.
• Existing relationships within the contractor or trade community.
• HVAC product knowledge.
• Experience developing existing customer accounts.
• Experience with distribution or order entry systems.
